Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency an online platform that includes videos and commentary on gender representations in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist over a decade. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit website that explores representations of women in popular cultural narratives. Determined to challenge the assumptions associated with women in pop culture she also works on issues related to the targeted harassment of women and the other minorities of online space. With a master's in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and also the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Sarkeesian was fascinated by female issues as well as feminism from the age of a child. When she was in 2009, she was still studying at the university level, she launched the site Feminist Frequency. The woman was determined and set out to develop a web-series to study gender representation in gaming. In the end, she came across herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The incident did not deter her, but instead strengthened the determination of feminist media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her numerous important contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit that explores the representations of women in pop-culture storylines.
