
Thomas William Selleck is an American actor. His first role was the private detective Thomas Magnum in the television series Magnum, P.I. (1980-1988) during which time he was awarded five Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead actor in a Drama Series which he won in 1985. From 2010 until 2010 Selleck has been the New York City Police Chief Frank Reagan. In 2005 his role was as the troubled police chief of a small town Jesse Stone in nine television films inspired by the Robert B. Parker novels.In films, Selleck has played bachelor architect Peter Mitchell in Three Men and a Baby (1987) and its sequel Three Men and a Little Lady (1990). Alongside his appearances in Magnum, P.I., Selleck has been seen in more than 50 films and TV shows, including the movies Quigley Down Under, Mr. Lassiter, baseball. He was a regular on television in roles as Monica Geller's love-interest Dr. Richard Burke on Friends, as Lance White, the likeable and unassuming partner in The Rockford Files, and as the casino's owner A.J. Cooper in Las Vegas. He also played a character in the television western film The Sacketts, based on two of Louis L'Amour's books.Selleck is a California Army National Guard veteran as well as a spokesperson for the National Rifle Association (NRA) as well as an endorser in ads for National Review magazine, and co-founder of the Character Counts! organization.
