
Ormond was the daughter of Josephine Lab technician and John Ormond (a stockbroker), in Epsom, Surrey. Ormond is the second of five children to her parents. The first time she performed in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. Then she attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After one year of arts school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in 1988. Ormond was first seen on British television in 1989's series Traffik. This show focused on the illegal heroin trade that was thriving from the Far East up to Europe. Ormond played the heroin addicted daughter of the character, a Home Office minister working to fight heroin imports. The first role he played earned rave reviews.
